Internship Alert: The Kresge Arts in Detroit


The Kresge Arts in Detroit office at the College for Creative Studies is seeking an organized and enthusiastic
intern to assist the staff of an exciting program supported by the generosity of The Kresge Foundation. Kresge
Arts in Detroit represents one facet of The Kresge Foundation’s Detroit Program, a comprehensive community-
development effort to strengthen the long-term economic, social and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding
region. Kresge Arts in Detroit provides significant financial support for the Kresge Artist Fellowships (of $25,000
each) and the Kresge Eminent Artist Award (of $50,000) annually to metropolitan Detroit artists working in the
Dance/Music, Film/Theatre, Literary Arts and Visual Arts categories. For more information, visit
This internship provides experience to students who have interest in communications, public relations and
constituent management especially as they relate to community building and the arts.
Please note: This internship is unpaid, but may be available for credit.
Job Title: Communications Intern
Reports to: Community Outreach Associate
Summary Description: Assist in day-to-day communications
activities, provide assistance at special events and maintain communication lists.
Required Hours: Available for 1-2 days a week with an average of 8 hours per week during normal business
hours (hours flexible)
Primary Duties:
  • Conduct regular clip scans for mentions of Kresge Arts In Detroit and its awarded artists; maintain press binder
  • Assist with social media
  • Assist with preparation of presentations
  • Assist in local and national press list management
  • Assist with constituent organization and management
  • Work on special projects as assigned
  • Assist with event preparations
  • Research related to communications
Desired Qualifications:
Upper level undergraduate or graduate student pursuing degrees in Communications, Public Relations,
Journalism, or Arts Management preferred
Interest in and enthusiasm for community building through the arts
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, web applications, Adobe Creative Suite)
Strong interpersonal skills and interest in working with diverse communities
