The intern will be working as a specialist primarily with Media and Community Relations teams in Corporate
Communications. Duties include preparing news stories for publications such as BMW/Community newsletter and
The Associate. Major project responsibilities include assisting with community relations campaigns such as the
“BMW Charity Pro-Am” golf tournament and other assignments assigned by manager.

Description
Media and Public Affairs handles Media, Community and Government Relations for BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC.
The department handles media visits and interviews to and about the factory, the factory’s philanthropic efforts in
the community and government relations with national, regional, state and local governments.
Requirements
Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
Have full time status at an accredited four year college or university in the United States
Pursuing a BS or Graduate Degree as indicated
Have completed three semesters towards that degree by the start of the work term
Able to complete 3 rotating terms for co-op positions
Have at least 1 remaining term in school after the completion of the co-op or internship
Transfer students must have a GPA from current university
Enrolled with the university co-op or career services office
Complete and pass a pre-placement physical and substance abuse test before the work term
U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Seeking:  Creative, enthusiastic public relations intern to assist with community outreach and public relations for longstanding non-profit artisan market in the heart of Ann Arbor’s historic district.  Responsibilities will include content development, media relations, and outreach to community schools and organizations.  Must have strong communication skills and interest in the business of art.  Full or part time.  Unpaid.  Hours: Flexible, but will include Sundays 10AM – 4PM (Apr.-Dec.).  Course credit available.

Semesters: Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring

The Sunday Artisan Market (not for profit) was founded in 1991 The Artisan Market was founded in 1991 by a collective of artisans who envisioned an affordable, accessible venue in which to sell their work and to learn the business of “doing art” in community with other artists. This original idea has continued to grow and expand with the support of the greater Ann Arbor community and its commitment to the development of public and private art.  Today, the mission of the Sunday Artisan Market is threefold:

 

  • To support new and experienced artists grow in their craft and business expertise,
  • To promote the appreciation of handmade arts and crafts in the community, and
  • To contribute to local business development and economic growth.

 

 

In support of this mission, the Sunday Artisan Market is updating and expanding their Marketing and Communications/Public Relations program to focus on:

  • Increasing the awareness, engagement and support of the market in the community
  • Supporting collaborative programs and special events with other community organizations that support the arts, and
  • Promoting the appreciation and value of handmade arts and crafts in the community

 

Key Internship Responsibilities:

Working with the TSAM Marketing Director and Board of Directors, the intern will assist in the development and implementation of multiple projects and activities to support this focus, including:

  • Working with artists and collaborative organizations to capture inspiring stories and content.
  • Creating motivating marketing, advertising and communication materials to support public relations and marketing programs, including Business Case presentation, brochures, posters, postcards, etc.
  • Participating in outreach to potential collaborators and supporters to introduce TSAM and establish collaborative programs.
  • Managing media relations, including creating and sending press releases, cultivating media relations, seeking news coverage, etc.
  • Identifying and helping implement creative PR actions to further TSAM objectives.

 

Note: in the first week of the internship, the Marketing Manager and Intern will work together a project plan which details specific goals, plans, deliverables and timing – as well as general expectations for internship project and time availability.

 

Communications Intern

Seeking:  Creative, enthusiastic communications intern to develop and implement customer newsletter and social media communications for longstanding non-profit artisan market in the heart of Ann Arbor’s historic district.  Responsibilities will include developing compelling news articles and content, design and implementation of newsletter, and coordinated social media support (website, Facebook, etc).  Must have strong communication skills and interest in the business of art.  Full or part time.  Unpaid.  Hours: Flexible, but will include Sundays 10AM – 4PM (Apr.-Dec.).  Willing to explore course credit.

 

Semesters: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter

  • Working with artists, customers and collaborative organizations to capture inspiring stories, content, artwork and pictures for use in customer communications vehicles.
  • Creating and implementing a Customer Newsletter that raises potential customer awareness and understanding of the Sunday Artisan Market, showcases the works of individual artists, and motivates customers to visit and engage with artist in the market, including:
    • Developing a format and work process for developing and distributing a weekly newsletters to target customer groups:
    • Developing, expanding and maintaining a mailing list of target customers
    • Developing content plan for newsletters for coming year
    • Developing content, stories, pictures and artwork, as needed,  for 6-12 newsletters
    • Integrating appropriate performance measures to monitor customer reach, understanding and engagement.
    • Keeping TSAM participating artists informed and engaged to continue to contribute

 

  • Coordinate content and implementation across TSAM social media venues to expand reach, understanding and engagement (website, Facebook, Twitter, other)
  • Work with PR to integrate results into overall Marketing and Public Relations activities.
